Breaking Down is Fixing Up

jordan - Posted on 17 April 2011

Hello, dear friends.  It is Sunday and usually there is a new episode out at 7:pm pacific time.  It brings me great displeasure to announce that that will not be happening today.  I have decided to cease releasing new episodes of the show for a period of time - but for good reason.  The short version - I am going to revamp the previous episodes to make them more readily available to the rest of the world.

I am not going to rearrange the show - I like it the way it is and I do not want to change a thing (I may use the time I never had to do more extensive color correction).  The issue is that there are certain legal requirements that need to be satisfied in order to be able to distribute Breaking Down to a wider audience - the primary target is the music I am using.  It kills me to have to replace music on the show because I feel that to be one of the largest factors in giving the episodes the feel I love and work off of.  Technology is literally forcing me to have to make these changes and it get's pretty discouraging knowing that I can't reach a larger audience with what I have - it's like climbing sideways on a mountain instead of up - so it must be done so I can make more progress.  After all, I do want to entertain as many people as I can.

Also, I'll be working on growin my team to get things moving more quickly.  I'll be looking for, of course, music as well as editors and graphics artists.  It never imagined how much work this show would be doing it on my own with a 50+ day job.  I'm far enough along, though, to start building the group and collaborating with other talent.

My game plan is to leave up the videos for a time and then take them down.  As soon as I have my newest edition fully finished called "K-Town Dangerous: LA's 24 Hour District" which will be in six parts I will re-release them on a more streamlined platform.  I will in addition "fix" the old editions (Seattle, Cosplay, and Food Trucks) while I compile the new editions.  They will all be released again from the beginning - but I will show the newest episodes towards the front.  I will also continue to write new editions and plan for season two - I have no intention of stopping any time soon.  I'm thinking about having season two in Japan.  Dear God.

I do apologize the the fans and viewers who have been with the show from these early stages.  The truth is I can make these shows but I'm still in the process of learning what I'm supposed to do with the damned things.  This initial run has been a huge learning process and I just need to readjust before it gets too deep and too late - and I feel great about what I see coming.  Now is a good time to make sure I can deliver these right and that I am in adherence with the laws and guidelines.  I know what must be done and I appreciate you sticking with the show for it's re-release.  You'll be the first ot know.

Thank you all,
J.O'Ly.

PS.  If you are interested in picking up more information about the process of distributing online video please check out my dear, dear friend's online series called "The Partner's Project" on their channel.  It was the last piece that made me make the final decision of revamping the show.
